Robbery hit-run: Woman run over twice in getaway

A jewellery store clerk has been mowed down as she tried to stop an alleged thief from fleeing on the Gold Coast.

The 32-year-old woman was hit twice by a green Holden Commodore outside the Treetops Centre in Burleigh, around 10am (AEST).

It's believed the man had asked to try on a gold bracelet, before making off with it.

Witness Ruth Burrows said she saw him sprinting from the shop, chased by an employee.

“They were all trying to run to the doorways, trying to block him,” she told 7News.

"Everyone was yelling and screaming ‘catch him, catch him.’

The suspected bandit managed to make it to a waiting vehicle, that is believed to have been stolen.

The car then sped off, hitting the shop assistant, before running her over a second time.

“I didn’t know whether I was safe or not, whether to run the opposite direction,” Ms Burrows said. “It was pretty scary.”

Police said the injured 32-year-old woman was very lucky to escape with minor cuts and bruises.

"All the treatment we’ve done is for per-cautionary measures," Officer-in-Charge Alan Windsor said.
