A one-month-old puppy has had its ear cut off with scissors in a “horrific act of cruelty”.

The male puppy, Brooks, was brought to a US animal hospital with his right ear hacked off.

“This sweet baby boy is barely over a month old and was brought to the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita,” animal rescue group, Beauties and Beasts, posted on Facebook this weekend.

“He was found with his right ear cut off with a sharp object that appears to be scissors possibly used in an attempt at a heartless and cruel home crop job.

“The WPD animal cruelty investigator has opened an investigation.”

The organisation posted pictures which show the young puppy with a gaping wound on the right side of his head.

The Kansas-based animal rescue group appealed for donations towards emergency surgery for the young pup.

“Please any amount you can spare will make a big difference to this little life that suffered such a horrific act of cruelty,” the group posted on Facebook.

The public has donated more than $2,000 towards Brooks’ medical fees.

The news comes after another heartbreaking act of animal cruelty earlier this year.

An Adelaide man admitted to decapitating his housemate’s Staffordshire terrier in a severe case of animal cruelty in August.

Police found him covered in blood, holding the dog’s severed head and a meat cleaver.
