Powerball: Woman's last-minute change leads to $20m win
A Melbourne grandmother has earned herself an impressive $20 million fortune after winning Thursday night's Powerball draw.
It was a last-minute change that earned the Truganina woman her sizeable winnings which she learned of right before going to bed.
"I decided to mix things up, and instead of putting my usual three to four games on, I decided to get a Powerhit consisting of special numbers that mean the most to me," she told The Lott.
"I’ve never expected to win anything big. I usually land three numbers, but never anything more!"
The woman held the only division one winning entry. The winning numbers were 30, 23, 9, 22, 5, 28 and 18, and the all-important Powerball number was 3.
She was shopping with her husband and daughter when she purchased a ticket at Wyndham Village Shopping Centre.
"My husband said to me, ‘don’t bother, we’re never going to win!’" she said, adding, "I guess I’ve proved him wrong."
Grandmother's plans with epic win
The grandmother said she "hasn't slept a wink" since learning of her monster win which is "truly amazing."
"My husband didn’t believe the winning news, and he jokingly said to me, ‘Oh, don’t be stupid!’. But then he just said to me, ‘Oh wow, it’s real?!’" she said.
With a multi-million-dollar prize about to land in her bank account, the Victorian grandmother is planning an Australian odyssey with her family.
"We would also love to help our children and grandchildren. We might help them all buy a house!" she said.
