Popular children's store recalls toy over choking fears

A popular kidswear store has issued a product recall for a toy giraffe sold across Australia, as it was deemed a potential choking hazard to toddlers.

Retailer Ollie’s Place, which has 40 stores nationally, released a safety warning this week advising customers who have purchased the fabric giraffe, or whose child has received one as a gift, to stop using the product immediately.

The fabric giraffe toy was available in medium and large sizes, from September 2013 up until last month.

“In some circumstances the eyes and neck bell may come loose with force,” Ollie’s Place said in a statement.

“If the defect occurs the small parts can cause a choking hazard to children under 3 years old.”

The retailer has advised parents to immediately stop their children from playing with the toy and return it to an Ollie’s Place store for a full refund.
