Police reveal why man, 46, was killed in his own home

A man who was found dead inside his home was targeted for the drugs on his property, police say.

The Albanian national was attacked and left for dead on Monday night at the Carousel Street home in Para Vista, in Adelaide’s north-east.

Police uncovered a hydroponic drug set-up while searching the house, which they now believe was the motive for the killing.

At first light on Saturday, detectives returned to investigate the 46-year-old resident’s brutal murder.

“This man appears to have been the victim of a significant assault, and for operational reasons I can’t go into the details of the injuries the man has sustained,” Detective Inspector Billy Thompson told reporters.

Police believe the elaborate hydroponic set-up found inside the home motivated the horrific attack.

“This particular house appears to have been targeted specifically because there was cannabis on the property,” Det Insp Thompson said.

It is believed the killer stole a large quantity of the drug before fleeing the scene in the victim’s car and later dumping it in a nearby street.

Detectives seized a number of marijuana plants and trailer loads of growing equipment on Saturday.

Neighbours say they never suspected a thing.

“He didn’t seem to have any visitors, no noise next door, nothing, it’s just very strange,” neighbour Richard Scurrell told 7 News.

“I said hello to him a couple of times, didn’t know his name or anything like that, very quiet bloke.”

Another neighbour Peter Wilson added: “The curtains are pulled, windows are always covered, nothing ever seems to be happening there.”

Police want to reassure the public this was not a random attack and are urging anyone who witnessed anything unusual in the area to come forward.
