Police officer praised after simple act caught on home's CCTV

A police officer has been praised for his simple act of patriotism that was caught on a resident’s CCTV.

On the Fourth of July, a US officer noticed an American flag attached to a home had fallen in the wind, and was touching the ground.

The United States Flag Code dictates the national flag should never touch anything beneath it, so the cop went out of his way to correct the symbol while the Marysville, Washington resident was not home.

He struggles to get it to stay in place, so he rolls up the flag and places it against the home rather than have it drag on the ground.

Resident Ben Rieman came home to find the flag rolled up so he watched the security footage to find out what happened.

Mr Rieman was so humbled by the good deed, he shared the video on a local community Facebook page to give the officer, later identified as Dave Negron, the recognition he deserved.

“I would like to THANK greatly to an Officer of the Marysville Police department!!!!” Mr Rieman posted to the Snohomish County Crime and Community Facebook group.

“It just so happens I was out and about enjoying my 4th of July, when my American Flag had somehow fell to the ground.”

“I wish I could thank him personally,” he added. “That’s a real American to me!”

Thousands on the Facebook group agreed the offer deserved recognition for his gesture.
