Police investigating after cyclist 'hits horse and injures rider'

Footage shows the moment a woman riding a horse was hit by a cyclist competing too close to them during a triathlon.

A video clip posted on Facebook shows Jennifer Katherine riding the horse along the road as cyclists pass by her.

She can be heard shrieking while trying to regain control of the animal after it reacts to being hit by a cyclist who got too close during the Windsor Triathlon.

Ms Katherine, who said she and her horse were wearing high-visibility clothing, wrote on Facebook the cyclist smashed along the side of the horse, taking the stirrup in the handlebars and bruising her ankle.

“My horse rears and bolts forward, taking off one of his back shoes,” she wrote.

“No one stopped to see if I or the horse was OK after this hit. I’m still in shock and feeling very sore along one side of my ankle.”

Ms Katherine, who said there were no warning signs to locals about the event, said that police and race organisers Human Race Events were investigating the incident.

Human Race Events said the person responsible would be disqualified.

They tweeted: “We are currently investigating an incident at the Windsor Triathlon involving a group of cyclists and a horse rider.”

“We are taking this very seriously. Riders will be identified and disqualified from all Human Race Events. All riders are briefed to follow the Highway Code.

“We do not condone dangerous cycling of any kind. We sincerely apologise to the individual affected.”
