A Schoolies trip has ended in tragedy after a Sydney teenager fell to his death from a high-rise apartment on the Gold Coast.

Hamish Bidgood was reportedly alone when he fell from the 10th floor of the Surf Regency Apartments on Laycock Street in Surfers Paradise in the early hours of Thursday morning.

He was found in the pool area at the base of the building, where paramedics later performed CPR. They were unable to save him.

Police will now be investigating whether the 18-year-old had been inhaling nitrous oxide gas before the fall.

Friends of the the Turramurra High School graduate have now cut their celebrations short and returned to Sydney.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

Red Frogs are offering counselling to any Schoolies revellers who feel they may have been affected by this tragedy.
