Three injured and boy trapped in Rottnest Island jetty collapse

At least three people have been injured after a dramatic incident on Rottnest Island when part of a jetty collapsed as they were fishing.

The incident occurred at about 6.20am (WST) on Wednesday at the Army Jetty in the southern end of Thomson Bay near the old army barracks on the island off the Western Australian coast.

The group, believed to be two women and an 11-year-old boy, were fishing from the jetty when it collapsed.

Police say two of the women were able to get to shore safely but the boy had to be freed by others responding to the emergency when his foot became trapped.
