'I was flying through the air': Passengers detail terrifying Qantas flight

Three Qantas cabin crew members have suffered injuries to their heads and backs when the plane experienced strong turbulence mid-flight.

The Qantas flight from Beijing to Sydney was about six hours into the journey when the turbulence occurred, according to Nine News.

Ambulances were waiting at Sydney airport when the plane touched down on Monday afternoon.

Two of the cabin crew members were treated for minor injuries and a third was taken to hospital for neck and head pain, Nine News reports.

The third cabin crew member who was taken to hospital has been identified as a 27-year-old woman.

While no passengers were injured during the unexpected bout of turbulence, some have detailed the horrific ordeal.

Many of the passengers were asleep at the time, but were awoken by the severity of the turbulence, those without their seatbelts on were thrown into the air, according to 10 News.

“All of a sudden I was flying through the air,” one passenger said after the flight safely touched down in Sydney.

Another passenger described the ordeal as “quite scary” and said there was “lots of screaming”. A male passenger said the woman sitting next to him hit her head on the overhead locker.

“Five minutes after I woke up, we jump up in the air,” another passenger told 10 News.

“There was no seatbelt light on or anything, so you could see the people jumping.”

A Qantas spokesperson told Nine News it recommended passengers keep seat belts firmly fastened at all times due to unexpected turbulence.
