Parents sue friends of son who died after he fell and hit his head while drunk

The parents of a student who died after hitting his head while drinking with friends are suing those with him on the night for failing to seek medical help.

Authorities say 19-year-old McCrae Williams died in September 2017 after fracturing his skull as he went to the bathroom to vomit, local news outlet Allentown Morning Call reported.

Hearing a loud bang, his classmates at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania’s Easton went to check on Mr Williams and found him on the floor.

They decided to place him in bed with a backpack on so he wouldn’t choke on his own vomit, according to a lawsuit filed by Mr William’s parents, Christopher and Dianne Williams.

The students waited until the following afternoon to call for medical help once his condition had worsened, and even though a district attorney cleared the classmates of any wrongdoing last year, his parents filed a lawsuit against his roommate and others who were present for wrongful death.

The lawsuit named 10 students, four who had supplied Mr Williams with alcohol and all 10 who had failed to offer adequate help when he injured himself.

A college spokesperson declined to comment on the lawsuit.

When concluding there would be no criminal charges following his death, District Attorney John Morganelli had said the students has acted with good intentions and believed the “semi-conscious” teen was simply intoxicated.

“I have no evidence that students just left him alone in his room and did nothing,” Mr Morganelli said, noting classmates regularly checked on him, providing him with water.

Two of Mr Williams’ lacrosse captains, supplied alcohol to him despite him being underage, the lawsuit said. The group had been drinking on and off campus throughout the day.

Since Mr William’s death, his parents have actively called for safe drinking policies to be implemented across US universities as well as setting up a charity in his name.
