Oz Lotto $90 million: Dad's 'crazy' error after claiming share of mega jackpot

The Sydney man has revealed how he'll spend his new millions.

A chuffed dad is in disbelief after learning of his mega Oz Lotto win after holding one of three division one entries in Tuesday night's mammoth $90 million draw.

The Sydney man was shocked to discover the true size of his mega win after thinking he'd scored $32,000. But turns out, the Sutherland Shire dad is Australia's newest millionaire after winning a humongous $32 million in prize money.

The Boxing Day draw skyrocketed to $90 million after $70 million went unclaimed last week and was the first time the Oz Lotto jackpot has reached such a figure in more than 14 years. Three lucky winners will start the new year as multi-millionaires after splitting the giant windfall, with each earning themselves a cool $32,629,794.23.

Sydney man misread his winning ticket

The Sydney dad was getting ready for bed on Tuesday when he realised he'd won — but had no idea of the size of his prize until hearing it from lottery officials.

"What!?! Thirty-two million!?" he exclaimed when an official from The Lott confirmed his prize. "I read it as $32,000! I didn’t read it properly. That is so awesome! That is insane. That’s crazy."

The Sydney man said "this type of thing doesn’t happen to someone like me" and revealed that he'll likely buy a house and shout the kids on an overseas holiday.

The winning ticket was a system Quickpick entry and the winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1558 on Tuesday 26 December 2023 were 17, 44, 22, 42, 31, 24 and 28, while the supplementary numbers were 3, 16 and 39.

There was also a total of 1,995,230 wins worth more than $44.06 million won in divisions two to seven in tonight’s Oz Lotto draw. Among these prizes were 31 division two wins each worth $52,070.45.

The other two winners were also from NSW — a man from Campbelltown on the outskirts of Sydney and another from Fairfield who only learned of his life-changing win Wednesday morning.

The Campbelltown man and his wife are now contemplating an early retirement after discovering they’re now $32 million richer. "I can’t believe it! I’m shaking. It's a dream come true," he said.

The lucky man purchased a 25-game QuickPick entry from The Lott on Tuesday afternoon, just hours before the draw. Meanwhile, the third winner is yet to be notified.

Third Oz Lotto winner finally claims prize

Although the entry was registered to a player card, lottery officials were unable to make contact with the third winner from Fairfield on Tuesday night on the contact details provided to deliver the multi-million dollar news. The Sydney man finally claimed his prize on Wednesday morning.

The shocked winner said he'd received three missed calls on Tuesday night, but didn't know who it was. Little did he know it was lottery officials informing him of his win, however the calls went unanswered.

"Last night, I received three missed phone calls while I was driving. I wondered who it was. Then I saw a text telling me to check my tickets," the third winner told lottery officials on Wednesday morning.

"I couldn’t sleep a wink when I got home. Seriously, I haven’t slept for one moment. I’m laughing now but last night, I was just in total shock. I can’t explain the feelings I was going through."
