Secrets of Oz Lotto wins revealed ahead of Boxing Day’s $90 million draw

One lucky punter could be crowned the fourth biggest Australian lottery winner ever.

New details about the handful of Aussie multi-millionaires who scored an Oz Lotto division one windfall this year — including the most frequently drawn winning numbers and suburb hotspots — have been revealed just days before punters try their luck in Boxing Day’s $90 million draw.

There have been 13 division one Oz Lotto winners across the country so far in 2023, collectively taking home more than $233 million in prize money, with New South Wales and Victoria being the most successful states. Three wins have landed in each, with two new multi-millionaires also emerging in Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland, and one in South Australia.

The entries that have won Oz Lotto jackpots

Interestingly, all but one of the Oz Lotto division one winning tickets this year — most of which were small entries with less than 18 games — have been QuickPicks so the lottery terminal randomly chose the numbers. Two of the tickets were system entries, which allows for more numbers in a single game panel, officials with The Lott said. The chance of winning an Oz Lotto division one prize is about 1 in 62.8 million.

The most frequently drawn winning Oz Lotto numbers this year have been 5, 19, 21 and 47, while the least frequently drawn numbers are 2, 15, 25 and 26. To score a division one win, all seven numbers must be pulled from the barrel.

Australia's 2023 lottery hotspots

An incredible four division one winning entries have been sold in the postcode 2530 for Dapto, with another three tickets sold in the postcode 4211 for Nerang/Pacific Pines in Queensland.

More suburbs that are home to the outlets that sold the most division one winning entries in the first 11 months of the year:

  • In Victoria, the postcodes 3000 for Melbourne, 3754 for Doreen/Mernda, and 3047 for Broadmeadows/Dallas each sold three division one winning entries.

  • In Tasmania, the postcode 7018 for Howrah sold two division one winning entries.

  • In South Australia, the postcode 5095 for Mawson Lakes sold two division one winning entries.

  • In the top-end, the postcode 0839 for Coolalinga delivered two of the Northern Territory’s division one prizes.

  • In Western Australia, the postcode 6163 for Spearwood sold three division one winning entries.

Boxing Day $90 million draw up for grabs

A third of Aussie adults are expected to buy an ticket for the $90 million jackpot for Oz Lotto draw 1558 on Tuesday December 26 in the hope they became a newly minted multi-millionaire just in time for the new year. The jackpot has reached this level after there were no division one winners during the past nine Oz Lotto draws.

“If just one person scores the entire $90 million prize on Tuesday night, they’ll not only receive a substantial boost to their bank account just in time for the new year but also be crowned the fourth biggest Australian lottery winner ever,” The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said. “The idea of winning this life-changing jackpot is sure to get Aussies dreaming big about what they could do in 2024 and beyond.”
