Aussie Lotto winner quits the rat race after $30m jackpot 'changes everything'

The winner was astounded to hear he scored the whopping sum in the lottery.

An Aussie man who landed a $30million jackpot in Tuesday's Oz Lotto draw is planning to quit his busy job following the huge win.

The Sydney local now looks forward to spending more time at home after being the only division one winning entry in Oz Lotto draw 1548, drawn Tuesday 18 October 2023.

Since the division one winning ticket was unregistered and as of Wednesday remained unclaimed, The Lott launched a search to find the winner.

“I thought I’d check the numbers on my ticket quickly and I immediately thought something was wrong when the prize came up,” said the winner, from Killara. “I sat there pondering.

“This is a big surprise. I’m still trying to process it all. I can’t believe I’ve won $30 million. I usually only ever win $17 – nothing significant. This is significant!

“It hasn’t sunk in at all. I think I’m going to sit down and process it all today.”

Lotto winner's plan to retire in Australia

The freshly minted millionaire, who travels for work, says he now plans to stay put in the country. “I had plans to continue to travel for work but this prize has changed everything for me,” he said. “I honestly think I might just stay here and retire. Australia is my home!”

His winning ticket was bought at Lindfield Newsagency in Sydney’s upper north shore.

Owner Constatine Mastrantonas said he was stunned to have sold the winning ticket. “It’s unreal! This is the biggest prize we’ve ever sold at Lindfield Newsagency and it was only last week that I was thinking it’s about time we had sold another division one winning entry,” he said.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 327 so far in 2023, including 103 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
