Why there's a good chance OzLotto's $90million jackpot will be shared

The Boxing Day draw will be the biggest Oz Lotto jackpot in 14 years.

Aussies will have a chance at claiming OzLotto's biggest jackpot in 14 years on Boxing Day as the top prize soared to $90 million a week ago. And while most gifts were exchanged on Christmas Day, there's a good chance a big thank you present is to be handed over if a division one winner is crowned.

That's because plenty of tickets in Tuesday's draw will have been gifted a day earlier, The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart told Yahoo News Australia.

"It’s not uncommon for division one winning entries to be given as gifts. We’ve certainly had major winners who received their very valuable tickets as a gift for a birthday, anniversary or Christmas," he said.

Hart said those who've won as a result of a gift often give a sizeable amount back to the person who got them the winning ticket.

"Usually, when someone wins a major prize from a ticket they received as a gift, they’re very keen to share some of the prize with the gift giver," he said.

Hart is responsible for calling up division one winners and sharing the life-changing news and he said he's intrigued to learn of how the winner of the giant jackpot got their ticket.

In September, an Aussie dad won $2.5 million on the TattsLotto after his wife bought the ticket for him for Father's Day.

And in July, a South Australian woman won nearly $2.6 million on the Saturday Lotto from a ticket from her in-laws. She said she was going to gift them a sum that would "change their lives". "They’ve changed our lives and we look forward to doing the same," she revealed.

The numbers superstitious Aussies will want to know

While statisticians often rubbish claims of 'hot and cold' numbers due to each ball having the exact same probability of being drawn as others in the draw, it doesn't stop Aussies having 'a feeling' about certain numbers.

Superstitious Aussies will likely be interested to learn the most frequently drawn winning Oz Lotto numbers this year have been 5, 19, 21 and 47. The least frequently drawn numbers are 2, 15, 25 and 26.

If one person claims Division one on Tuesday night, it will be the fourth biggest lottery prize ever to be handed to a single person in Australia.
