Outrage over 'family friendly' water park's new swimsuit rule

A Perth theme park has raised a few eyebrows after introducing a swimsuit policy.

Adventure World wrote on Facebook on Thursday reminding people it’s a “family friendly park”.

“Please choose appropriate swimwear when visiting,” it wrote.

The park included a picture with the words, “don’t be too cheeky”.

The picture shows what the park said is acceptable and unacceptable swimwear depicting tight bikini bottoms.

However, it hasn’t been well received by people on Facebook.

“Is this an actual joke?” one woman wrote.

Another added, “you have got to be kidding”.

Another simply posted a gif from The Handmaid’s Tale.

However not everyone thought the new rule was bad.

“Completely agree with this rule,” one woman wrote.

“I don’t want to see bums every time I’m in line for a ride, nor [do] my kids.”

Another added she “completely” agreed with the policy.

In response, the park clarified the rules aren’t gender specific.

“Let’s not confuse the issue,” Adventure World wrote.

“This update is about dress standards and dress standards only.”

It wrote the park’s staff keeps informed of “industry trends” and while the decision wasn’t taken lightly “it is in line with other parks nationwide”.

“To those who have taken offence, we apologise,” Adventure World wrote.

“We are not the first park in Australia to update their dress standards on this subject, nor are we the only venue in WA that has addressed the matter with a similar policy.

“As a family friendly venue, we feel it is appropriate.”
