Man arrested on child sex charges allegedly involving nine-year-old girl
A tip-off from Canadian police has led to the arrest of a Sydney man on child sex charges.
Riverwood man Jayson Darke faced Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday, accused of committing sexual acts online with a nine-year-old Canadian girl - a liaison allegedly organised by the girl's own mother.
It's alleged Mr Darke and the woman started having explicit conversations about the child online last August, which led to offers of compromising photos of the nine-year-old, followed by an online video encounter.
Mr Darke was arrested after Canada's Royal Mounties contacted Australian authorities.
He said he had struck up a friendship with the girl's mother on Facebook after visiting Canada, that he suffers serious psychological issues and has a drinking problem, but that he would never harm a child.
His case returns to court in May.
