Man badly mauled by mother dog after trying to break up fighting puppies
A Sydney man has been badly mauled after trying to help break up a fight between a pair of bull terrier pups.
But it wasn't the puppies that got him - it was their protective mother, reacting suddenly and savagely to the human intervention.
Ian Fraser was left bloodied and bandaged after breaking up the dog fight.
He was seen to by paramedics as the female bull terrier was taken away by a council ranger.
Witnesses say she attacked when the Good Samaritan stepped in to break up a fight between two of her pups.
"So he's gone in to help them .. and then he got set upon," witness Will Goldthorpe said.
Mr Goldthorpe, trained in first aid, was in his living room next door when he heard shouting and ran to help.
"The wounds were quite significant," he told 7 News.
"Once the adrenaline started to wear off, he decided he wasn't feeling too good and had a minor collapse".

With his son Nathaniel helping, Mr Goldthorpe kept the victim conscious and stemmed the bleeding.
Mr Fraser was taken to hospital and straight into surgery.
One of the pups involved in the dog fight was also injured and was seen to by a vet.
The bites to Mr Fraser's hands and arm, while serious, somehow avoided any major arteries.
He remains at Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
The dog is in the Fairfield Council pound while a decision is made about her fate.
