Breakthrough arrest made in murder of gangland figure Hamad Assaad

A man has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of bikie associate Hamad Assaad in Sydney's southwest last year.

Assaad was shot multiple times and died just after 9.20am on October 25 in Georges Hall, despite attempts by paramedics to revive him.

Detectives established Strike Force Pippa to investigate Assaad's death, and a search warrant was executed at a Greenacre home around 6am on Thursday.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and is expected to be charged with murder and participating in a criminal group.

Before his death, Assaad was a key suspect in the murder of underworld figure Walid Ahmad.
