WATCH: Rats filmed scurrying through Sydney CBD food court

Rats have been filmed scuttling through a Sydney CBD food court, with a witness describing a swarm of up to 30 rodents.

The clip, uploaded on YouTube and posted to Reddit, shows five rodents running through the dark in what is believed to be the Galeries Victoria food court area on George Street.

Reddit user CameronSmith93, who uploaded the video, said he has since reported the sighting to the City of Sydney Council and had been told inspectors would make a random inspection.

“It was quite bad - only captured a few on video, but there were probably at least 30 visibly running around in there,” he added.

“They seem to be living in the Mero Mero counter - they've chewed out the corners (as you can kind of see, the owners have tried to tape one corner up) and are running in and out of there and all over the cooktops in the room behind as well.”

The Galeries Centre manager Suzie Ryan told News Corp it was taking the rodent sighting seriously.

The last routine check was reportedly June 22, but centre management will speak with retailers to ensure the issue is addressed.

A City of Sydney spokesperson said, while rat activity can’t be completely eradicated, the rat control program used in Sydney was in line with industry best practice.
