"At this point in time I haven't quite processed it properly and I don't know how I'm even meant to feel about this or how I'm meant to describe how it's affected me," she said on Monday.

"(Robert Xie) was definitely not a murderer in my eyes. He was, just an uncle. A family guy. That was it."

Ms Lin spent most of the day reading social media comments responding to the story, which were overwhelmingly supportive and sympathetic.

Brenda walked beside the procession of five coffins at the funeral for her family.

"I was just not expecting the amount of support, just from people I don't know, people I've never met, people from the other side of Australia. It's been just absolutely amazing," she said.

"I, myself, am a private person in general, so it's hard to talk about my life and it's hard to tell the whole of Australia about my life as well."

"Seeing all [the comments], I feel like I've made the right choice talking about it.”

The young woman, who turns 23 in a few days, said there would be a party as she celebrates a blank canvas for her future, dedicated to making her family proud.
