Melbourne man fined for bearing 'IMANOB' number plate

When police asked a Melbourne man why he was driving an unregistered car, he simply gestured to his false number plates for an explanation - 'IMANOB', they read.

Victorian highway patrol officers spotted the interesting Jeep registration bearing plates IMANOB in Hampton Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The owner of the vehicle told police the reason he was driving unregistered was because he was "a nob". Photo: Supplied

Checks confirmed the car had been unregistered for almost three years, with the driver providing only a short explanation for the crime.

When asked for a reason as to why he was driving an unregistered car with false plates, the driver provided the reason reflective of his plates.

"Because I'm a nob," the man said.

After slight confusion and a gesture towards the plates, the police realised what he meant and fined him more than $1000.
