65-year-old man run down by speeding driver

FIRST ON 7: Surveillance cameras have captured the dramatic moment a man was hit by a car in Sydney.

Habib Alzahary was hopping out of his station wagon when he was swept off his feet by a speeding vehicle on Maxwells Avenue in Ashcroft on Thursday.

The vision shows witnesses rushing to help the 65-year-old as he lies pinned between two cars.

Residents say speeding drivers are not uncommon in suburban streets.

“'I’ve lived her for 30-years and seen about 20 accidents. It's very dangerous,” Sonia…..told 7 News.

Two accidents have occurred on Maxwells Avenue in the past six weeks, prompting calls for the speed limit to be lowered from 50 to 40 kilometres an hour.

Mr Alzahary was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

The driver of the speeding car is expected to face charges over the incident.
