‘Evil spirits’ blamed for Cabramatta theft

Police are searching for three women who allegedly stole a large sum of cash and jewellery from a 60-year-old woman.

The pair told the woman that ‘evil spirits’ would bring bad luck to the victim’s family unless she handed over the cash.

The victim withdrew money from an ATM in Cabramatta, in Sydney’s west.

She got into a conversation with the two women who told her the money and belongings would be ‘blessed’ and would eventually be given back to her.

Police believe the women are taking advantage of spiritual beliefs within the Chinese community.

There have been two similar incidents in the Chatswood and Haymarket regions and police believe there are more victims out there.

Police have released CCTV footage of two women of Asian appearance. They are both approximately 40 years old and around 160cm tall. One has long black hair and the other has short yellow dyed hair.

They are also seeking a third woman not seen on CCTV. She is also of Asian appearance, is aged around 30 years old and is around 155cm tall.

Anyone who may be able to identify any of these people described is urged to contact Cabramatta Police on 9725 8999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
