NSW woman shot dead 'after opening front door'
A woman has been shot dead after answering her front door, NSW police say.
The woman, believed to be 61, was shot dead at a home on Queen Street, Stockton, near Newcastle on Wednesday about 8pm.
Police have been told she answered her front door before she was killed.
The woman is yet to be formally identified.
Officers from Newcastle City Police District have established a crime scene, which is being examined by specialist forensic police.
Police are now seeking dash cam and CCTV footage from the area.
