Mum infects 17 of her children with coronavirus

A mum has accidentally infected 17 of her kids with COVID-19 while not knowing she was ill with the disease herself.

Brittany Jencik, who has 18 children, brought the virus into her home in Penfield, New York, about five weeks ago and unknowingly spread it amongst her kids, some of who are adopted, according to WHAM.

After she began experiencing the full wrath of the virus, some of her children started showing symptoms and it hit the household “like a freight train”, she told the network.

“It was terrifying. I was a little ahead of them in the timing of it all. I was as afraid of my life as I had ever been, and not much scares me,” Ms Jencik said.

At times, she thought she would never return to her regular healthy self again due to how severely the disease affected her.

More than a month on from when the virus struck her home, Ms Jencik said the family had started showing signs of recovery.

To ensure the coronavirus was completely expelled from the house, 12 professional cleaners were brought in to deep clean the entire property while the family waited outside.

“I needed to know from my mama heart that I was protecting the people I love to the best extent I possibly could,” she said.

She has remained home with her family in isolation so as to not spread the disease any further.

It is not yet known why some people experience the illness more severely than others, or not at all even if they come into close contact with infectious people, just as Ms Jencik’s 18th child would have.
