Mum, 33, mauled to death by her own pit bulls as she fed them

A 33-year-old mum has been mauled to death by her two pit bulls while trying to feed them.

Johana Villafane, from Dallas in Texas, was at a veterinary clinic on Saturday about 11.45am (local time).

Ms Villafane was at the clinic to feed the dogs and was in an exercise area when the two canines attacked her, police said.

The fire department arrived followed by police who attempted to assist the 33-year-old but could not as the dogs “continued to exhibit aggressive behaviour”.

An officer shot both the dogs and Ms Villafane was taken to hospital where she later died.

Police officer David Dickinson told US news outlet Fox 4 the dogs bit someone earlier this month and that was why they were in quarantine.

“She was attending to the dogs, coming up to the dogs and it’s my understanding that she was walking the dogs when the event occurred,” he told the station.

Neighbour Grant Dickey told KTVT the dogs seemed to be friendly.

“They had always seemed friendly, but aggressively friendly if you will. Jumping on you… and they were pretty sizable dogs,” he said.

A Facebook fundraising page described Ms Villafane as “cheerful, fun, kind, loving person in love with her children”.

An investigation is ongoing.
