'Never have I felt more ashamed': Labor MP's hurtful 'Vote No' skywriting experience
Labor MP Emma Husar has spoken about the shame she felt standing under "Vote No" skywriting in Sydney with a gay couple during the same-sex marriage survey campaigns.
The Member for Lindsay told parliament's same sex marriage debate on Wednesday, she was watching her son's basketball match beside a lesbian couple whose son was also playing, when the offensive slogan appeared above them in September.
“Never have I felt more ashamed as a person, as when I stood with you and your boys under a giant 'No' written in the sky," she said in an open statement to the same sex couple.
"That moment will stay with me forever,” she said.
“Worse than that were the hurtful conversations that we overheard... as always though, you handled it with grace and dignity.”

Ms Husar also apologised to the couples’ children “who had to endure that in front of their peers”.
“I am so sorry,” she said.
The western Sydney MP thanked other gay couples who had been affected by the same-sex marriage equality campaign.
She concluded her speech quoting the lyrics to Macklemore's equality anthem Same Love: “No freedom 'til we’re equal. Damn right, I support it.”
