Missing student's car found in gorge carpark

There has been a development in the search for a missing Chinese man after his car was found at a Melbourne gorge.

Mount Waverley man Yiwei Chu, 28, has been missing since April 11 after he was last seen at a fast food outlet in Notting Hill.

The vehicle believed to be driven by Mr Chu, also known as Carl, was spotted at Werribee Gorge by a local resident before reporting it to police on Friday.

They had first seen the white 2016 Toyota Camry parked in a car park off Myers Road on Thursday.

Investigators are now appealing for anyone who was in the Werribee Gorge State Park since his disappearance and who may have seen the vehicle to come forward.

His emotional family addressed media to plead for help in finding Mr Chu.

“At home, grandmother, father, mother all miss you so much. Hopefully you can contact us as soon as possible,” his father said via a translator.

“You are our only son… without you, we are not sure how we can live on.”

His parents are offering $10,000 to anyone who can find their son.

The Melbourne Institute of Technology student had planned was supposed to pick up his wife from her workplace in Hawthorn the day he disappeared.

Anyone who sights Yiwei, or who may have dash cam footage in the Werribee Gorge State Park since his disappearance is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
