Meyers Leonard to meet with Jewish community leaders, Miami students after anti-Semitic slur
Meyers Leonard will meet with members of the South Florida Jewish Community and University of Miami students next week, something that is part of the “learning process” after the former Heat center used an anti-Semitic slur on a video game stream last month.
Leonard, according to WPLG’s Will Mando, will conduct the meeting via Zoom.

It is one of the first public appearances by Leonard since the incident, which resulted in him being traded away and quickly waived. He has also met with various leaders and members of the Jewish community in the Miami area.
Leonard used anti-semitic slur on Call of Duty stream
Leonard, while streaming and playing “Call of Duty” on Twitch last month, used an anti-Semitic slur while talking to another player.
The Heat quickly condemned Leonard’s language and announced that he had been banned from the team “indefinitely.” Miami later traded Leonard — who had season-ending shoulder surgery in February — to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who waived him just after the trade deadline.
Leonard apologized for using the slur the next day, and claimed that he didn’t know what the slur meant when he said it.
“I am now more aware of its meaning and I am committed to properly seeking out people who can help educate me about this type of hate and how we can fight it,” he said in a statement, in part.
Leonard averaged 5.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 54 games over two seasons for the Heat. The 29-year-old spent his first seven seasons in the league with the Portland Trail Blazers, who picked him up with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2012 draft.
