Meat recall: Coles and Woolworths pull pork item off shelves

Customers are being offered a refund if they've purchased the product.

A meat product sold at Coles and Woolworths is being recalled over fears of causing an allergic reaction.

The Hanabi Marinated Pork Bulgogi 290g by Oriental Merchant Pty Ltd is being taken off shelves due to the presence of an "undeclared wheat/gluten allergen", according to Food Standards Australia and New Zealand.

Before being recalled, the product was available at Coles in NSW, QLD, VIC, TAS, SA and WA and Woolworths in NSW, QLD and VIC.

Those who bought the product with the date markings 'best before 23/05/24 and 06/06/24' and have a wheat/gluten allergy or intolerance are being warned not to eat the product.

"Any consumers who have a wheat/gluten allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed," the food safety agency said on Thursday.

If customers return the marinated pork to where they purchased it, they'll be issued with a full refund.
