Meaning behind Aldi's secret price tag code revealed
The meaning behind a mystery letter on some Aldi price tags has been revealed after an eagle-eyed shopper spotted it in store.
While shopping at his local Aldi, the customer came across the letter "D" hand-written on the price tag of Sweet Valley passionfruit pulp tins.
Curious about what the mystery letter meant, he took to social media for answers on the store's cryptic coding system.
“Saw these with a ‘D’ on them today, not sure if it’s for the line or if someone used permanent marker on the pricing rail?” he wrote on Facebook alongside a picture of the coded price tag.
It wasn’t long before other Aldi shoppers started weighing in on the unusual price tag code and what they thought it meant.
“They're probably going to delete this product like other good items they have deleted in the past,” one person commented.
"It's a summer line so there will be no more stock till the end of the year. Once they sell out the D tells the staff to move other products over to fill in the empty space," added another.
Others agreed that seasonal stock at Aldi was marked with a D until all the stock ran out, with one saying it may return to Aldi next summer.
"Pretty sure this is seasonal at Aldi and it'll be back again one day," the shopper said.
Meanwhile, others questioned whether the D meant there was a "delay" in more stock of the item hitting shelves.
"They put the D up on cat food and I asked what does it mean and the young guy said deleted. So I thought oh gosh. So I asked the manager and he said very delayed," another shopper added.
So what does it really mean?
While Aldi uses several codes in stores to assist customers and employees, the D code is purely used to assist employees in stocking shelves.
Yahoo News understands that the code is used to mark the price tag of limited edition products that won’t be replenished.
The code helps Aldi staff members find the items easily when stocking shelves.

It's not the first time Aldi shoppers have queried the cryptic "D" code on Aldi product price tags.
Late last year another Aldi shopper discovered the dreaded code on the store's popular Garlic Dip, with an Aldi employee confirming the code's meaning.
"D means discontinued (I work there)," the employee revealed, leaving shoppers devastated.
Another popular product to fall victim to the dreaded code was Aldi's limited edition Bao Buns, which were marked with the code early last year.
