TV host Maya Jama has called out trolls online after copping some nasty comments about a dress she wore on the latest episode of ‘Save Our Summer’.

Jama hosts the weekly show in the UK with England football great Peter Crouch, which aims to fill the void left by the lack of sporting events due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With major events such as the Euros, Wimbledon and the Olympics all postponed or cancelled, the show brings the biggest names in sport, music and entertainment together.

However Jama ran into controversy last week when fans hit out at her ‘revealing’ dress.

The 25-year-old didn’t take kindly to the backlash, exposing the nasty comments on Twitter.

“Appreciate your concern. I am able and allowed to dress how I please,” Jama responded to one fan.

“If you feel uncomfortable by my boobs sitting in my dress that’s on you sis.

“We're all fighting for equality and similar treatment to our male counterparts. Don't let the side down by hyper sexualising my bod.”

Jama also fired back at another troll who said she looked ‘obese’ and suggested she ‘go on a diet’.

“You look like you p**s ash, please focus on your own vitamin intake,” she said.

Jama said she was responding publicly “not for sympathy or for you guys to get at them but just to remind you that people are MAD on here and more time if someone's gone out the way to be mean to a stranger unprovoked it's a reflection on them not you.”

“I laugh at it now cause I’m used to it but for those that aren’t and if you are experiencing the effects of an unhappy troll just mute or block and try to feel sorry for them.”

Other fans praised Jama for taking a stand.

“I think what she is trying to say is that you're a successful intelligent woman with your own mind on how to act and dress,” one wrote.

Another commented: “Don’t pay any attention to these people. You can dress however you please & you don’t have to dress differently just to please others. You looked fab last night & I’ve enjoyed watching the last two shows x.”

A-League season to resume on July 16

Meanwhile, the A-League season will resume on July 16 after the COVID-19 hiatus with a derby between Melbourne Victory and Western United at AAMI Park.

The remaining 27 matches of the home and away season will be packed into a 28-day period before the finals, which must be completed by August 31.

However, the detail for the remainder of the season is yet to be confirmed, due to the prospect of further relaxations in state border restrictions.

“We have developed multiple draw options for the completion of the regular season,” Football Federation Australia's head of leagues Greg O'Rourke said on Tuesday.

“All options commence with Victory taking on Western United at AAMI Park followed by a game between the table-topping Sydney FC against third-placed Wellington Phoenix at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium the following day.

“The reason for having multiple draw options - which our clubs are across - is due to the fact that over the next few weeks there may be additional relaxations in border restrictions and travel movements in Australia, which may enable our clubs from Victoria, Queensland and South Australia to remain and play in their home cities, rather than relocating to New South Wales to complete the season.”
