Man found dead inside dinosaur statue days after going missing

A missing man has been found dead inside a dinosaur statue.

The 39-year-old was found inside a statue of a stegosaurus in Santa Coloma de Gramenet in Spain on Saturday afternoon, The Guardian reported.

A police spokeswoman told the publication a father and son found the man trapped inside one of the dinosaur's legs.

"It's an accidental death; there was no violence," she said.

"This person got inside the statue's leg and got trapped."

Police believe the man dropped his phone inside the statue and became stuck trying to retrieve it.

The spokeswoman said it appeared he tried to enter the dinosaur head-first.

It was also believed he may have been stuck inside the dinosaur for a number of days.

Firefighters had to saw off part of the statue to retrieve the man’s body.

Video from the scene shows a crane also had to be used during the retrieval.

The man was a Spanish national and his family hadn’t heard from him for a number of days, newspaper Diari de Girona reported.

But it was not clear when he was reported missing.

An autopsy will determine how the man died.
