Man discovers true identity of 'abandoned puppy' he found in canyon

A man walking his dog has rescued what he thought was an abandoned puppy.

Officers from the San Diego Humane Society received a call last week from a man who found the animal in a canyon, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The man picked up what he thought was a puppy and delivered it himself.

Except, it turns out, the animal isn’t a dog.

According to the San Diego Humane Society the man brought in a coyote puppy.

It’s believed the little coyote may have been separated from its family while they moved dens.

The coyote has been moved to Project Wildlife for care before it gets transferred to an animal sanctuary.

Project Wildlife’s Lauren Dubois told the Union-Tribune it can be difficult to tell the difference between dogs and coyotes when they’re pups.

The plan is to care for the coyote until it's strong enough to go back into the wild.

It will then be returned to the canyon.

In May, a DNA test on what was thought to be an enormous rescue dog named Yuki revealed his true breed.

In October, a Chinese man discovered the identity of what he thought was a small black dog.

He eventually gave the animal away much to the dismay of people on social media.
