Man thought he won $1m shocked to learn it was $20m: 'Like a dream'
A Melbourne man who became an overnight millionaire in Tuesday’s Oz Lotto got the surprise of a lifetime when he discovered he’d won the entire $20 million jackpot.
The lucky winner held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1471, drawn on Tuesday, April 26 – meaning he took home $20,034,283.20.
Speaking to an official from The Lott, the lucky man joked that winning the lottery was the secret to a good night’s sleep.
“I’m still in bed right now, but I checked my Oz Lotto ticket last night while getting dinner ready, so I think I know why you’re calling,” laughed the winner.
The Victorian man confessed he counted all the lottery numbers on Tuesday night after the draw and was shocked to realise he'd won.
“But I thought I’d won one million dollars, not 20 million dollars! I assumed multiple people won the prize, not just me!” he exclaimed.
“I never thought I’d become an overnight multi-millionaire. It’s so much money! This is very overwhelming,” he added.
'It feels like a dream', confesses Oz Lotto winner
Despite having lottery officials confirm his life-changing win, the man said his good fortune still didn’t feel real.
“I know this is true, but it doesn’t feel like it. It feels like a dream!” he said.
The winning man also revealed how he planned to spend his newfound fortune.
“I’m still renting, so I’ll use the prize to buy myself a house. I also want to help my family and travel around the country,” he revealed.
Before concluding: “God bless you, dear! This is amazing. Now I can live my life to the fullest.”
The winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1471 were 4, 22, 30, 17, 5, 45, 34, while the supplementary numbers were 31 and 44.
The man's winning System 8 entry was purchased at Tullamarine Authorised Newsagency, where the owner Sasha Kulincevic said his entire team were celebrating the win.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 376 so far this financial year, including 138 won by Tatts customers.
In 2021, 18 division one winning Oz Lotto players across Australia collectively won more than $279.7 million.
During this time, the biggest Oz Lotto jackpot was $50 million, which was shared by a Queensland and Victorian player in November.
However, there are more chances to win big, with Thursday’s Powerball offering $20 million and $2 million up for grabs in Tuesday’s Oz Lotto.
The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $9.41 million for draw 1570, while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize is now $11.70 million for draw 10561.
