Lotto winner mistakes $2 million win for $20 prize

A woman who became an overnight Lottery multimillionaire was surprised to learn of her $2 million prize, after thinking she had only won $20.

The mother, who is from the Hawkesbury in NSW, held one of the 10 division one winning entries in Saturday Lotto draw 4177, which was drawn on Saturday.

The woman said she knew she had won, but wasn’t aware of the capacity of the prize.

“I was just flicking through my phone last night and I thought I’d check my ticket, I saw it and it said I’d had a win,” she said.

“I thought it was $20 at first but then I saw there were a few more zeros!”

Of the 10 division one winning entries in Saturday Lotto draw 4177, four were from NSW, two were from Victoria, two were from Tasmania, and two were from Queensland.

The woman purchased the winning 12-game QuickPick ticket online at The Lott’s official website.

Saturday Lotto's winning numbers were 32, 41, 13, 16, 33 and 18, with supplementary numbers 9 and 19.

The woman said she was not a regular Lotto-ticket buyer.

“This was just a one-off. I only play randomly every now and then,” she said.

Other NSW residents have also recently experienced Lotto wins, with a Sydney woman discovering her winning ticket two weeks after the draw, and a Coffs Harbour woman predicting her $5 million win before it happened.

Winner’s vow after multi-million dollar win

The NSW mum plans to spend her winnings helping her family, and travelling.

The woman told a representative of The Lott that she and her family had lost sleep after the exciting news.

“We’re very excited, we hardly slept all night,” she said.

When asked how much the win meant to her, the woman indicated how she intended to spend her winnings.

“This has changed our lives, it will mean so much to my family,” she said.

“We can travel around Australia in a caravan and help our kids.”

The woman’s goal isn’t unusual, with other millionaire lottery winners vowing to use their winnings to travel.

In 2020, Saturday Lotto created 122 millionaires across Australia, with 312 division one winners in Saturday Lotto who collectively won over $355 million.

More chances to win the Lotto

Following the multi-million dollar win in the Saturday Lotto draw, players have even more chances to win in the near future.

Tomorrow night’s Oz Lotto is offering a $2 million prize, whilst Thursday’s Powerball has $60 million up for grabs.

The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now at $2.2 million for draw 1540, and $1.41 million for draw 10482.

Monday night's Set for Life draw also offers a prize of $20,000 per month for 20 years.
