Family's stunning $20 million Lotto win after finding 'old tickets'

Almost three weeks after unknowingly winning the $20 million Oz Lotto prize, a Victorian family has come forward to claim their winnings.

The family, who reside in Golden Square in Victoria, said they had completely forgotten they had even purchased a ticket for the multi-million dollar draw on Tuesday July 6, 2021.

“We were cleaning the house the other day when we came across some old tickets which we’d forgotten about,” the mother of the family told officials from The Lott.

The mother, who had purchased the unregistered winning ticket from Golden Square Newsagency, decided to take their long-forgotten tickets back to the store to check them on the self-scanner.

After being told to go to the counter, the lucky mum remembered hearing there was a search on for a mysterious missing ticket winner from Golden Square – which is when she started to think maybe she held the winning ticket.

“I didn’t want to get my hopes up, so we checked again ourselves and that’s when we realised we were the winners,” said the excited mother.

As their ticket was unregistered, officials from The Lott were unable to track down the elusive Golden Square family to tell them the news and had to wait for them to come forward.

The family are still reeling from the news and say that they are unsure if they will ever come down from the high of winning the lottery.

“We just can’t believe we’re multi-millionaires now. This feels like a dream come true!” said the ecstatic winner.

“This feels like the best day of our lives! I am not sure if we’re ever going to come down from this.”

Hunt for mystery Mount Hutton Lotto millionaire

The search continues for Lotto’s latest mystery millionaire who is yet to come forward to claim their $1 million prize.

The winning ticket, which was purchased at Pharmacy 4 Less in Mount Hutton, is unregistered so lottery officials are unable to reach out to the winner to share the life-changing news.

Pharmacy 4 Less Store Manager Lauren Butterworth said the store was "excited" to know they sold the winning ticket and hoped the winner would realise their new-found fortune soon.

“We’ve been encouraging all of our players to check their tickets in hopes we find this mystery winner," said Ms Butterworth.

“Whoever they are, we just hope they find out soon, so they can enjoy being a millionaire!” she said.

The winning numbers were 20, 17, 15, 9, 5 and 24 while the supplementary numbers were 21 and 25.

Officials from The Lott are urging everyone who purchased tickets from the pharmacy to check their tickets for these numbers.

“It’s likely this winner has been going about their day as normal with no idea they’ve become an overnight millionaire!” said The Lott spokesperson.

Could it be your chance to win big?

There will be more chances to take home the prize with Wednesday’s Oz Lotto offering $10 million and Thursday’s Powerball which has $40 million up for grabs.

To enter the draw, players can purchase tickets at any licensed lottery outlet, online from The Lott or via The Lott mobile app.
