Last day for parents to claim $500 cash boost
Aussie parents have been warned it’s their last chance to claim a $500 cash boost as kids head back to school.
Parents in New South Wales have been reminded to claim their before- and after-school-care vouchers before time runs out.
Parents of primary-school-aged children are encouraged to download the $500 Before and After School Care (BASC) voucher by January 31, 2023.
The NSW Government’s $155 million BASC Voucher Program helps families with household budget pressures. More than 305,000 vouchers have already been downloaded by parents.

Of these, more than 219,000 were redeemed at a BASC service to help families with the cost of care. Parents have until June 30, 2023 to redeem the vouchers at a participating service.
NSW Treasurer Matt Kean said the $500 BASC vouchers were one of the ways the government was supporting NSW families to juggle work and family responsibilities.
“We know the Before and After School Care vouchers help to ease financial pressures and give parents and carers increased flexibility with their work commitments,” Kean said.
“Supporting working families is a priority of this government, with more than 70 rebates and vouchers available putting money back in the household budget.”
Minister for Education and Early Learning Sarah Mitchell encouraged parents to download the $500 voucher before they closed.
“Before- and after-school-care services are an essential part of our school communities, providing working families with a range of options for their child to have a safe place to learn, play and socialise,” Mitchell said.
To download the voucher, parents are told to register and apply online via their MyService NSW account, in the app, or by visiting their nearest service centre.
$100 active voucher
Additionally, families have been reminded to download the new Active Kids voucher to save $100 per child on sport and recreation activities.
Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said a new Active Kids voucher became available on January 1, and would help ease pressure on family budgets.
“It might be the middle of summer, but winter sport registration is heating up and now is the perfect time for families to turn their attention to their new Active Kids voucher,” Henskens said.
“The Active Kids program has turbocharged sporting participation across NSW, with more than 4.85 million vouchers redeemed, saving families $481 million. It’s the largest grassroots sport-funding initiative in the nation and is driving enormous increases in participation across all sports.”
The NSW government recently extended the Active Kids voucher program to include school holiday sports and recreation activities.
Parents can also access this voucher online via their MyService NSW account, in the app, or by visiting their nearest service centre.
