Kind police officer breastfeeds suspect's crying baby

A kind-hearted female cop has breastfed the crying baby of a suspect in a police station.

The five-month-old boy and his five-year-old older brother were taken into a police station after their mum was arrested in the resort city of Mar del Plata in eastern Argentina’s Buenos Aires Province.

Policewoman Leila Ayelen Diaz leapt into action when the baby started crying and she realised that he was hungry.

The police officer, who has a nine-month-old baby herself, said she had acted on instinct.

“The baby was wet and she started to cry. We didn’t know how to calm her. Then I decided to breastfeed her,” Ms Ayelen Diaz said.

“It was a very emotional moment for everyone.”

She said that cops had taken the children inside the police station after their mother was arrested in the street as it was cold outside.

Police officers also changed the baby’s nappy and found something for the older boy to eat.

Another cop, Matias Bravo, captured the moment on camera and later shared the image on social media.

One commented it was “a beautiful gesture”, while another online commentator said it was “pure love!”.

The children were later handed over to social workers. There is no report on the reason for the mother’s arrest.
