'It’s bizarre’: KFC slammed for 'axing women-only toilet'

Customers at a KFC store in Staffordshire, UK, are up in arms after the females-only bathroom was removed during a restaurant refurbishment.

Patrons of the Newcastle-under-Lyme location have complained that the renovation only left one male bathroom and three unisex toilets - with some saying the move was political correctness gone too far, according to The Mirror.

“It’s very bizarre and just not on,” customer Jill Tanley said.

A teenager reportedly pondered to the publication why men were given a seperate bathroom but the only option for women was a unisex bathroom.

“Why do men get one and we don’t?” the 17-year-old said.

Another customer claimed that the change removed women’s rights.

“It’s crazy and what about women’s rights? They’ve gone out the door at KFC and it’s very unfair,” she said.

The Mirror reported that the introduction was part of a nationwide switch up, with locations in Hampshire also understood to have installed unisex toilets.

A female KFC employee reportedly told the publication the company is trying to appear modern.

“Customers have been moaning about the changes but the company wanted to cover their backs over the transgender and gender neutral current issue and think it’s the best way forward,” a staff member said.

A spokesperson for KFC told The Mirror the signs were a mistake and not intentional.

“It looks like there was a bit of a mix up here with the toilet signs, but not to panic – they’ve now been changed,” a KFC spokesman said.

In Australia ‘all gender’ bathrooms have been a welcome addition to the University of Technology, while Hobart announced plans to trial gender neutral bathroom signs in September.
