'Just burn the house down': Woman finds huge spider in her sock

A NSW woman has found a big, hairy spider in her sock.

Rebekah Wilson said her sister, who lives in Moss Vale in the Southern Highlands, found the spider in her sock and she has shared a picture of the wandering arachnid.

The picture has been flooded with comments from Facebook users recoiling in horror at the creepy crawly.

“I’d be burning all my socks,” one woman wrote.

Another woman added if it was her sock, the spider would be dead “due to being flung across the room in terror”.

“Then I would have to change my undies,” she added.

Another user suggested how to deal with the problem.

“Just burn the house down!” she said.

“It probably has buddies.”

There are some suggestions the spider could be a mouse or trapdoor spider due to its large appearance.

Thirty-seven new species of spiders were recently discovered by the BioBlitz field study in Queensland.

One was named, Baalzebub, after the prince of darkness because of how it quickly pounces on flies trapped in its web, spider expert Robert Whyte told Yahoo7.

“These things have a tensioned web, so when things land on it, it springs on them,” he said.

Last month, NSW Health issued a warning about spider and snakes bites for people spending time outdoors over the warmer months.

NSW Health advised when it comes to arachnids, people need to be aware of funnel web and redback spiders.
