Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool need 'best stay-at-home fans in the world' to get Anfield trophy wish
Jurgen Klopp has challenged Liverpool supporters to prove they can be the "best stay-at-home fans in the world" to ensure the players can clinch the title at Anfield.
The Reds face having to play matches away from Merseyside until they seal the league crown over fears fans will ignore social distancing guidelines and spill out onto the streets to celebrate a first title in 30 years.
Liverpool need six points to be certain of winning the Premier League, meaning June's derby at Goodison Park and the subsequent fixture against Crystal Palace, originally scheduled for Anfield, could be moved to neutral venues.
But despite hinting at a solution which would see Liverpool crowned on home turf, Klopp says it will still be an "exceptional day" if Liverpool eventually pick up the trophy elsewhere in the country.
“In the moment for me whenever it will be, in an empty stadium blah, blah blah, with all the thoughts and prayers and love from the people all around the world it will still be an absolutely exceptional day in my life,” Klopp told beIN Sports.
“I heard that there is some talk [about neutral venues], I’m pretty sure that we can solve the situation here as well in Liverpool.
“I heard a day ago a really good phrase about that we have the best home fans in the world, and now we need the best stay-at-home fans in the world.
“We waited a while for this situation and it’s not done yet. If we had not stopped the league, or it would not have happened, the silly null and void stuff.
“We wanted to play anyway and now we are really desperate to play because we want to become champions on the pitch that looks like that we can do that.”
