Shocking moment woman abandons newborn baby on footpath
This is the moment a young woman abandons a newborn baby boy on a pavement outside a house and runs off.
The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera in Penjaringan located in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
It was posted on Facebook where it has been seen more than 28,000 times at the time of publication.
In the footage, a young woman in a blue top is seen walking along the pavement while holding a baby.
She looks around and carefully places the newborn on the ground before running away without taking a second look.
A 22-year-old neighbour called Sihab Mahajaya said a bystander first spotted something unusual on the pavement.
Mr Mahajaya and several other residents went to check the bundle and discovered the baby wearing a yellow jumpsuit and hat.
“We then realised that it was a baby. The tot was lying on his back and was not crying,” he told local media.
“This is a quiet area. It happened when everyone was working.”
Mr Mahajaya said they took the baby to a nearby health centre after discovering him, while some other residents reported the incident to the police.
Authorities have confirmed they were investigating the alleged abandonment.
