Hunt for mystery Powerball winner who scooped entire $20m jackpot

One Aussie is entering the weekend as a freshly minted multi-millionaire.

Aussies have been urged to turn their homes upside down to find a winning Powerball ticket after one mystery player nabbed the entire $20 million prize.

The winner held the only division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1436 on Thursday. Lottery officials are now searching for the individual, who purchased the entry from a newsagency in Sunbury, Victoria.

Lotto officials urging Aussies to find the winning ticket

Because the winner was not registered to a player card or online account, The Lott has no way of making contact, so it’s possible the Melbourne player is entering the weekend with no idea they are a multi-millionaire.

The winning numbers were 35, 31, 32, 7, 23, 33 and 4. The Powerball number was 5.

"We’re urging all players who purchased a Powerball entry from Nextra Sunbury to check their tickets as soon as possible,” said The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell.

"We’ve heard from previous winners their entries have turned up in weird and wonderful places. Be sure to check your fridge door, car console, wallet or even old shopping bags.

"The division one prize is due to be paid into the winner’s bank account in two weeks’ time, on Friday 8 December, but first the mystery ticketholder will need to come forward to claim their prize. It certainly would set them up for a very merry Christmas ahead!

"If you discover you are holding the winning entry in last night’s draw, contact The Lott on 131 868 immediately to begin the process of claiming your prize. This is an important reminder to all players to always register your tickets to a player's card or online account, so we can call immediately after the draw with the exhilarating news.”

Newsagent's 32nd top prize

Newsagent worker May Crotty said her team at Nextra Sunbury were ecstatic to have sold a division one winning entry.

"It’s very exciting news!" she said. "Our manager discovered the winning news at 4am in the morning and it was quite the surprise to start the day," she said.

"This is our 32nd division one winning entry sold since Nextra Sunbury first opened and the excitement never ends. We love helping change the lives of our customers and will continue to do so."
