An American mum’s Facebook apology has gone viral after she discovered her daughters were misbehaving at their local movie theatre.

Kyesha Smith Wood says she was furious after discovering her daughter and step-daughter had been “rude and obnoxious” to a woman who had asked them to keep it down during a screening of Cinderella on Saturday night. When asked to be quiet, the girls were reportedly “disrespectful.”

Taking to Facebook, Wood left a message to the mother, Rebecca Boyd, to “apologise profusely.”

Read Wood’s note below:

This is a long shot, but I'm looking for a woman that was at Tannehill Premier tonight seeing Cinderella at 7pm. I dropped my teenage daughter, step daughter, and son off at the movie. My son later told me, much to my humiliation and embarrassment, that my girls were rude and obnoxious during the movie. The woman I'm looking for addressed them and asked them to be quiet and they were disrespectful. After the movie she approached my girls and told them that her husband had been laid off and this was the last movie she would be able to take her daughter to for a while and my girls ruined that for her. If you are this woman, please message me. I can assure you that these girls are being strongly dealt with and appropriately punished. This rude, disrespectful, and awful behavior is unacceptable and they owe you an apology. My husband and I are having them write your apology letter tonight and we would like to pay for your next movie and snacks out of their allowance. Please message me if this is you. I apologise profusely for their disrespect.

The status has been shared nearly 47,000 times and was eventually seen by Boyd. “I was very touched that Kyesha was not offended that I approached her girls,” Boyd told Yahoo Parenting. “Her kind letter brought tears to my eyes.”

Boyd sent a letter to Wood over Facebook, and the two mothers connected immediately. “I thanked her for correcting my girls in my absence and letting them know that they were wrong,” Wood told AL.com. “A lot of times people get nervous about saying something to a stranger’s kids. But it takes a village to raise our kids.”

According to Boyd, the post resonated because parents don’t help each other out often enough. “Parents need to stick together and watch after each other’s kids,” she said. “As parents we can’t be there all the time.”
