How one fateful decision saw a hard-working tradie win $2.5 million on Keno

A Queensland tradie was in disbelief after discovering he had just become a multi-millionaire while having a few beers at the pub.

The young concreter from Acacia Ridge south of Brisbane knocked off work after six days straight and decided to head to the pub and take a punt on a game of Keno.

While playing pool, the bartender told the tradie, who has not been identified, there had been a whopping $2.5 million Keno win.

The Brisbane man is a regular Keno player, but instead of marking a 5 Spot entry with his favourite numbers, he made the spur of the moment decision to play a 10 Spot entry, which more than paid off.

“I didn’t think about it at all. I just decided to play 10 numbers,” the tradie told The Lott.

The man, aged in his 20s, said he was “f***ing gobsmacked” by the win.

“I just finished work. Six days of concreting and I said to my boss ‘we’re going for a drink – it’s Saturday night’,” he said.

“We’ve been working six days straight and we do that nearly every week. I work hard for the money I earn.

“I’m just a concreter who works his a** off from 6am to 6pm who’s just won enough to set himself up for life.”

As to what he is going to do with it, the tradie said he will “be smart”.

“I’ve already thought about what I’m going to do with it. I’ve got big plans. It’s going to help me and a lot of other people,” he said.

The man purchased the Keno ticket from the Acacia Ridge Hotel Motel and duty manager Bryony Hannington said the other patrons were excited for the man.

“He was just so pumped,” she told The Lott.

“This is by far the biggest winning entry we’ve sold. Before this, the biggest one I’ve ever sold is $42,000. It’s just fantastic.”
