Officers shook his hand afterwards thanking him for his help.

Police later told Inside Edition the gunman, Shawn Briggs, was carrying a loaded 9mm pistol with 29 rounds.

Bill said he had “one opportunity” to act or be a bystander.

He also sometimes walks with a cane due to back problems.

Police Commander Scott Highland, who was on the scene, said Bill may have saved lives as the gunman “had some very ill intentions”.

Authorities said Briggs had a lengthy police record.
