Grammy award-winning girl group legend is eliminated on 'Masked Singer'

It was "Date Night" on The Masked Singer Wednesday night, but after the Banana Split, the Cupcake, the Queen of Hearts, the Mallard, and Group B's Wildcard contestant, the Caterpillar, each took the stage to perform, we had to break up with the Cupcake.

While the panelists guessed celebrities like Angela Bassett, Tina Turner, Leslie Jones, and Grace Jones, the Cupcake was actually Ruth Pointer of the Grammy award-winning vocal group, The Pointer Sisters. While it may have felt weird to some viewers that the eldest sister was on the stage alone, Ruth revealed that she wasn't supposed to be a solo act.

"There were supposed to be two cupcakes," explained Ruth. "Anita's having some health issues that we couldn't avoid, so I ended up doing it by myself." No details were given on exactly what Anita's health issues are, but Ruth had a sweet message for her sister.

"Sweetheart, I did what I came to do, and I love you and can't wait to get home and support you," Ruth said directly to camera at her sister watching at home.

It may have been a bittersweet ending for Ruth but, for us, her encore performance was the icing on the cake.
