Friends who filmed themselves raping woman in maintenance closet at nightclub jailed

Two Italian men who filmed themselves violently raping a 23-year-old woman in a London nightclub have been jailed for seven and a half years each.

Ferdinando Orlando, 25, and Lorenzo Costanzo, 26, raped the victim in the maintenance room of the Toy Room club in Argyll Street, Soho, in the early hours of February 26, 2017.

The men were seen high-fiving and hugging each other on CCTV following the attack and later watched the assault on their smartphone.

The woman required surgery following the rape.

CCTV showed the men kissing the visibly drunk victim and then walking her into the maintenance room only a few minutes after they met her inside the club.

She remained in the toilets for more than an hour after the assault before being found by staff in severe pain.

A couple who were at the club helped the woman home but she was later taken to hospital where she required surgery.

The suspects had claimed they both had consensual sex with the victim.

Both of the men then returned to Italy, and it was a year later before Costanzo was eventually arrested when he returned to the UK to watch a football match in London.

Orlando was detained at a later date when he flew back by appointment after contacting police.

They were both found guilty of two counts of rape each following a trial.

Detective Sergeant Rebecca Woodsford, the Senior Investigating Officer who led the investigation since 2017, said: “Today’s result is the best possible outcome from a truly traumatic experience for the victim, who suffered severe injuries which resulted in her suspecting she may have been raped.”
